Making Breadsticks
- Combine warm water and yeast in a mixing bowl; let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix in flour, salt, and olive oil; stir until you have a shaggy dough.
- Knead the dough by hand for about 5 minutes until it reaches a smooth, elastic texture.
- Cover it with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough gently, then roll it out on a floured surface to about half an inch thick.
- Cut into strips for the iconic breadstick shape.
- Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, sprinkle with cheese and seasonings.
