How to Make
- Layer ingredients in the slow cooker starting with sliced yellow onions and 3 tablespoons of salted butter. Lay the chicken on top and season.
- Pour in dry white wine and chicken broth, sprinkle in sliced mushrooms. Cover and cook on low for 3-4 hours or high for 1-2 hours.
- Preheat the broiler.
- Remove chicken and most of the onions. Transfer to a baking sheet.
- Turn the slow cooker to high, add dry orzo and 1 cup of water. Cover and cook for 20-30 minutes.
- Add heavy cream and grated parmesan cheese.
- Top the onions with remaining butter and gruyere cheese, broil for 3-5 minutes.
- Serve the orzo topped with chicken and onions.
