Ingredients

For the Donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder ensure it's fresh
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tbsp milk adjust for desired consistency
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

For Topping (optional)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for dusting
  • 1 tsp cinnamon for cinnamon sugar topping

Instructions

Prepare the Donut Batter

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that the donuts bake evenly and rise properly.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the sifted flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. This helps to aerate the dry ingredients.
  • In another bowl, whisk the egg, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. This mixture adds moisture and flavor to the donuts.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to dense donuts.

Bake the Donuts

  • Lightly grease the mini donut pan with cooking spray or butter to prevent sticking.
  • Using a spoon or piping bag, fill each donut cavity about 2/3 full with batter. This allows room for the donuts to rise without overflowing.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the pan from the oven and let the donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack.

Prepare the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, combine the sifted powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth and adjust the milk to achieve your desired glaze consistency.
  • Once the donuts are completely cool, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • If desired, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl and sprinkle over the glazed donuts for added sweetness.

Notes

These mini donuts can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. For a fun twist, try adding chocolate chips or sprinkles to the batter before baking.
