How to Make Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Add the oil, eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, vinegar, and buttermilk to the butter mixture.
  5. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
  6. Pour the batter evenly into your prepared cake pans and gently smooth the tops.
  7. Place the cake pans in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes.
  9. For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
  10. Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, mixing until creamy. Incorporate vanilla extract and pinch of salt.
  11. Once the cakes are completely cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
