How to Make Red Velvet Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour your cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking soda, cocoa powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Add the oil, eggs, vanilla extract, red food coloring, vinegar, and buttermilk to the butter mixture.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, mixing just until combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into your prepared cake pans and gently smooth the tops.
- Place the cake pans in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
- Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes.
- For the frosting, beat together the cream cheese and butter until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually add the confectioners’ sugar, mixing until creamy. Incorporate vanilla extract and pinch of salt.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, frost them generously with the cream cheese frosting.
